What was the point of that story? Except for the big smile that statement put across my face it was to show that, for many years, I would have waited back in line, or would’ve stood there tapping my foot until they realized the error of their ways (maybe never?). And that’s not right. Granted, there are MANY times when you’ll look dickish or pushy but I have learned that some times, you ARE entitled to not be pushed over or forgotten.

Recently I was part of an organization…

…that was growing at an impressive, but outrageous rate. I truly did pity the work the organizers had to go through in order to manage such a large group. The problem of course is that with more people comes more opinions and ideas. Some times the organizers are willing to bend, some times not. Depending on the structure of the organization that is their prerogative. It is what it is.

There  was an incident where a group of opinions were censored, leaving a few people very unhappy, but who were unwilling to comment because they didn’t want to compromise their standings (which is fair, many paid significant sums to be part of the group and didn’t want to lose their investments).

I was not one of those people.

Long story short (-ish), I told the organizer that I was sorry my opinion came off as disrespectful, because it was not intended to be that way, but I still had a right to explain it. She did not agree with me and made a few condescending remarks. That’s when I resigned from the group. Prior to this I had no major opinions on how things were run, or how the group was doing, but one moment of unprofessionalism ruined it for me.

My point to all of these stories of my supposed ballsy-ness are this: As a business owner, you have to grow a tailbone and say “No, this is not right for me or my business.” If YOU let people walk over YOUR thoughts on what would be better for YOUR business, then who is really running things?

Be open to compromise but not to unprofessionalism

Say “no” to wasting more of your time.

Say “no” to those who are not beneficial to your company.

Say “no” to people that want to intimidate and bully you.

Focus on the positive people that can bring you and your business to the next level.
